i haz a fanmix.

This is my first fanmix ever, hope I did an okay job.

So I've had this playlist in my iTunes for ages now, and I finally got around to narrowing down exactly which songs I wanted to include on the mix. Honestly, these are just the ones I always have in my R/S playlist. I've got others, but I'm always adding and deleting.

I'm not really going to elaborate on why I chose certain songs, because I think the lyrics do a pretty good job of that already. In some cases the songs don't make perfect sense; I've got a lot of songs that just strike me as very Remus/Sirius even if the words don't completely make sense. Certain songs are very specific to certain events, so I noted who they're representing next to them. Ones that say Remus/Sirius can really go either way. Also, I tried to minimalize the amount of lyrics I posted, but in some cases almost the whole song fit and I had to post a couple of verses.

Okay, maybe I am going to elaborate slightly:

'Creep', although very self-explanatory just strikes me as a very Remus-y song in the fact that it's very self-depreciating. I always get the feeling that Remus wonders how the hell he got to be with Sirius, who's so fucking gorgeous, and sometimes he wishes he were special too.

The first verse of 'Nothing Man' has always reminded me of right before everything goes to shit and Sirius goes off to Azkaban. You know, the whole scene in the street and Peter's finger gets left behind, blah blah. This one line, specifically: "How my brave young life was forever changed, in a misty cloud of pink vapor," has always reminded me of that. I just feel I might need to justify this to others as I've been told my reasoning doesn't always come across as very clear.

I think that about covers it... if you've got any questions about why I chose something, I'd be glad to explain. I tried to minimize that here because I tend to get very rambly and digress a lot.

An asterisk denotes any song that is an .m4a. If you need me to convert any of the songs to .mp3, just ask. I've uploaded individual songs and a zip folder of all the songs. Enjoy! (Oh, and sorry for the super lame cover, I haven't been bothered to do anything artsy recently so you're stuck with my hastily thrown together crap album art. You can save and do with it what you wish by right clicking and saving, I forgot to put it in the folder with the songs.)

1. the story : brandi carlile (remus)

all of these lines across my face
tell you the story of who i am
so many stories of where i've been,
and how i got to where i am

you see the smile that's on my mouth
it's hiding the words that don't come out
all the the friends who think that i'm blessed
they don't know i'm in this mess

no, they don't know who i really am,
and they don't know what i've been through like you do
i was made for you

2. creep (acoustic) : radiohead (remus)

when you were here before
couldn't look you in the eye
you're just like an angel
your skin makes me cry

i don't care if it hurts
i wanna have control
i want a perfect body
i want a perfect soul

but i'm a creep
i'm a weirdo
what the hell am i doing here?
i don't belong here

3. us : regina spektor (remus/sirius)

they made a statue of us
and put it on a mountain top
now tourists come and stare at us
blow bubbles with their gum
take photographs for fun, for fun

they'll name a city after us
and later say it's all our fault
then they'll give us a talking to
then they'll give us a talking to
because they've got years of experience

4. blackbird : the beatles (sirius, post-azkaban)

blackbird singing in the dead of night
take these broken wings and learn to fly
all your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise

blackbird singing in the dead of night
take these sunken eyes and learn to see
all your life, you were only waiting for this moment to be free

5. slow like honey* : fiona apple (remus/sirius)

you moved like honey in my dream last night
yeah, some old fires were burning
you came near to me, and you endeared to me
but you couldn't quite discern me

does that scare you? i'll let you run away
but your heart will not oblige you
you'll remember me like a melody
yeah, i'll haunt the world inside you

6. brothers on a hotel bed : death cab for cutie (remus/sirius)

you may tire of me as our december sun is setting
because i'm not who i used to be
no longer easy on the eyes
but these wrinkles masterfully disguise
the youthful boy below who turned your way and saw
something he was not looking for: both a beginning and an end
but now he lives inside someone he does not recognize
when he catches his reflection on accident

on the back of a motor bike
with your arms outstretched trying to take flight
leaving everything behind
but even at our swiftest speed we couldn't break from the concrete
in the city where we still reside.
and i have learned that even landlocked lovers yearn for the sea like navy men
cause now we say goodnight from our own separate sides
like brothers on a hotel bed

7. honest : band of skulls (remus/sirius)

right on the inside, that is the hardest
the hardest game to play
you sorted it all out and managed to slip through
the night into the day

do you ever get lonely?
i'm gonna take you home

8. the scientist : coldplay (sirius, post-prank)

come up to meet you, tell you i'm sorry
you don't know how lovely you are
i had to find you, tell you i need you
tell you i set you apart

9. nothing man* : bruce springsteen (sirius)

i don't remember how i felt
i never thought i'd live
to read about myself
in my hometown paper
how my brave young life
was forever changed
in a misty cloud of pink vapor

darlin' give me your kiss
only understand
i am the nothing man

10. you're missing* : bruce springsteen (remus)

coffee cup's on the counter, jacket's on the chair
paper's on the doorstep, but you're not there
everything is everything, but you're missing

you're missing, when i see the sun rise
you're missing, when i close my eyes
you're missing

morning is morning, the evening falls i got
too much room in my bed, too many phone calls

11. i see a darkness : johnny cash (remus/sirius)

and did you know how much i love you
is a hope that somehow you, you
can save me from this darkness

12. i will follow you into the dark : death cab for cutie (remus/sirius)

you and me have seen everything to see
from bangkok to calgary
and the soles of your shoes are all worn down
the time for sleep is now
it's nothing to cry about
'cause we'll hold each other soon
in the blackest of rooms

if heaven and hell decide
that they both are satisfied
illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs

if there's no one beside you
when your soul embarks
then i'll follow you into the dark

The Story is PERFECT for them, isn't it? I've had a R/S fanmix that I was going to call "The Story" also on the back burner for over a year, myself.

IT SO IS. I was really struggling to think of a title, but I finally decided on 'The Story' because I think it's just a great song to represent them, and the fact that their entire relationship (well, in fic anyways) can be thought of as a story.

Also, your icon. !!!! John and Keith!

Exactly! The song actually describes their whole relationship-- for instance, the "You see the smile that's on my mouth" verse. To me, it's from Remus' POV in DH when everyone's happy for him and Tonks-- he doesn't think he's blessed, it was just a drunken night of angsty sex that got her pregnant (or, at least, that's how it goes in my mind).

No way, you like the Who too? :D

I never thought of that, but it totally makes sense.

And I LOVE them. Haven't listened to them too much lately, but I was obsessed for the longest time. Someone invited me to go see Roger and Pete (I refuse to call them The Who) back in October and it just wasn't the same. :(

Yeah, I think about these things a lot, probably too much, haha.

Awwww. I saw them in November, myself... It definitely wasn't the same, but it was still pretty damned good.

Oh, me too, don't worry.

Yeah, it was pretty good, only downer was that I had floor seats and I'm very short so I couldn't see much. I honestly haven't listened to them in ages and now you've inspired me to go do so. I might have to dig out the vinyls tomorrow. :)

Good, lol.

I had the same problem! It seems like I always get stuck behind tall people at these things-- there were two guys in front of me who were both over 6 feet. :/ Yeah, you should definitely do that! :D

Oh, that sucks. I even tried going to the aisle to see a bit better but the security guard told me to go back to my seat. People are too uptight sometimes..

Mind if I friend you? Anyone who listens to The Who and likes R/S is pretty damn awesome in my book. :)

Awwww, that's no good. I was tempted to stand on my chair, myself, but then that probably would've pissed off the people behind me, and I don't do confrontation XD

I would love to be friends! :D

I kneeled on my chair for a bit, but I felt like I was pissing people off, and I know what you mean about not doing confrontation. D:
